By installing and using cpux you agree to these terms. They are deliberately short.
#Licence
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use cpux on devices you own or control. You may not resell the app, or redistribute it as your own work.
#What the readings mean
cpux reports what your device tells it. Android restricts which kernel interfaces an application may read, and manufacturers restrict them further, so some values are unavailable on some devices. Where a value cannot be read, the app shows a dash rather than inventing a number.
Where a figure is inferred rather than measured, the app says so on screen. Processor utilisation, for example, is estimated from core clock frequencies on devices that deny applications access to /proc/stat, and is labelled as an estimate wherever it appears.
Marketing names for chipsets are resolved from the identifiers your device exposes. Some manufacturers ship several distinct chips under one platform identifier, so a chipset name may occasionally be approximate. Raw identifiers are always shown alongside it so you can check.
A speed test measures one path to one server at one moment. Signal strength, network congestion, the Wi-Fi router between you and the line, other devices in the house, and the server itself all affect the result, and repeating a test will produce a different number. It is a measurement, not a specification of your connection, and it is not evidence of what any provider has agreed to supply.
The support judgements shown beside a result — whether the connection is sufficient for 4K video, calls, or cloud gaming — are computed from the published recommended rates of those services. They are a guide. Real-world behaviour also depends on the service, the device and the moment.
#Advertising
cpux is free and is funded by advertising. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob and are placed so that they do not obscure a reading you are looking at. The Privacy Policy describes what an ad request sends.
The developer does not choose, endorse, or vouch for any individual advertisement, and has no relationship with the advertisers whose ads appear. What you do with an advertiser after tapping an ad is between you and them.
Blocking, intercepting, or automating interaction with the ads — including tapping them in order to generate revenue — is a breach of these terms and of Google's policies, and may result in the app being removed from the store for everyone.
#No warranty
cpux is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The information it displays is provided for general interest and diagnostics, and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for a purchasing, warranty, repair, or safety decision.
#Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use cpux.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you, including your statutory consumer rights.
#Acceptable use
Do not use cpux to attempt to circumvent device security, and do not modify or redistribute it in a way that misrepresents its origin or its behaviour.
#Trademarks and independence
cpux is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google LLC, ARM Limited, MediaTek, Qualcomm, Samsung, or any other hardware or software vendor whose products it reports on. All product names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used only to identify the hardware in your device.
cpux is also unaffiliated with any other similarly named system information tool.
#Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. When they change in substance, the app will ask you to review them again. Continuing to use cpux after that point means you accept the revised terms.
